One New Year, Eight SEO Strategies

A lot of people resolve to do new things in a new year to help them increase their success in internet marketing. If you’re looking at new SEO strategies, this is a very good idea to do on a regular basis.  What you’re doing today for your websites might be working but you might want to try some new things, too.

Here are some ideas for you. Many of these ideas might already be in use by you but some might be worth trying and adding to your routine. Self-promotion of your sites is essential for continuing to get good SERP results so never think that SEO shouldn’t be continually worked on!

SEO Ideas

  1. Article Marketing. New sites are developed regularly but a great one that brings good search engine results and human visitors is Ezinearticles.
  2. Squidoo lenses and Hubpages.  Write well thought out and intriguing articles on your subject and create lenses and hubs about that subject. These can also bring you traffic, bring you visitors and earn you some revenue while you’re at it.
  3. Blog comments.  Visit other blogs in your niche and leave meaningful comments with a link back to your site. Don’t forget to link all your blogs together through blogrolling on your multiple blogs. (If you don’t have multiple blogs yet, go ahead and open some free new accounts with WordPress and Blogger to help you get more traffic & SEO!)
  4. Blog trackbacks. Write an entry in your blog about another high ranking blog in your niche and you might get an automatic link on their site.
  5. Post in forums and put your site URL in your signature
  6. RSS feeds.  There are a lot of RSS sites that will allow you to submit your feeds
  7. Directory submission. Find relevant directories to submit your URL to.
  8. Social bookmarking. Submit some sites to social bookmarking sites and get some link love!

Something new could drive some new traffic to your blog as well as help you get further indexed so you can sell more of what you’re selling and hit your 2009 income goal. Hopefully you’ve set something agressive for youself so you can challenge yourself and do a happy dance when you meet that goal!

IM Tool Of The Day: EzineArticles.com

We’ve talked in the past about how helpful Ezinearticles.com can be for you. Here is a post directly dedicated to telling you why you need an account with this site.

Three Reasons Why You Should Open An Account

1.  Get traffic to your website. Pre-sell on this site and the bio box will send people to your site

2. SEO. Anchored keywords pointing to your site from this site will get you search engine traffic via search engine spiders and people too.

3. Your articles are available for syndication if others want to publish on their site. They must keep your bio box and links in tact so you’ll get further search engine and potential human traffic as a result.

Of all the article directories, this one has consistently been the biggest bang for your buck. The site has editors and they have strict guidelines so follow them and you should have no trouble.  You can even use this tool in conjunction with other social marketing and networking tools as well. Feed it on RSS feeds on other sites as well as set up to automatically Tweet on Twitter when you’ve had a new article approved. Some affiliate marketers use this tool daily to build SEO and get potential customers to their website.

Should You Optimize for Multiple Keywords?

When trying to optimize your website for search engines, should you pick one keyword or optimize for multiple keywords? There’s no clear cut answer as SEO isn’t exactly black and white.  There are different approaches you can take based on:  how much time you want to spend, how much on-page SEO you plan and how much off-page SEO you’re planning as well.

Your Site Stats:  Data Gold!

A good SEO approach involves trying something and seeing what fruit it bears.  Read your site stats often to see how you’re doing for specific keywords and then capitalize on those words some more.

Here’s an article optimizing method that might help you:

  • Write the article naturally so it reads well to people before you worry about search engines
  • Check live-keyword-analysis to see if you’ve got any keywords with decent keyword density (make sure nothing is too high, such as over 2.5%)
  • search with a ~ in Google (see our Google Tilde operator post) to find other related keywords and sprinkle them in.

It’s a good idea to target your SEO with a tiered strategy. Main keywords used  and a layer of secondary keywords used as well.  If everything is written with silos in mind in terms of using as many related words as possible while maintaining the integrity of the article you could definitely get some great results from multiple search engines.

SEO is something you’ll continue to do as part of your business and continually absorbing new knowledge about SEO best practices can definitely help you gain some ground in the SERPs.

Free IM Tool of the Day: Live Keyword Analysis

Free SEO tools are abundant online and can help you with your SEO and internet marketing efforts.  Here’s another one worth mentioning.

Live Keyword Analysis is a url that offers a free keyword analysis tool. You can use this tool to help you hit a specific % of keyword density for your website content.  This can be helpful when trying to hit a number that’s high enough for positive SEO while also trying to stay below a certain keyword density on words and phrases  as well.

Why is Keyword Density Important?

While using relevant and popular keywords are necessary in your content so that search engines will index you for relevant keywords enabling potential subscribers and customers to find you, if you keyword stuff your content you won’t have much luck either with SERP’s (search engine results pages) OR with people because the content won’t read well.

A fine balance between good content that’s readable to people as well as readable to search engine spiders is necessary and this free tool can help.

Live Keyword Analysis lets you plug your text in and indicate which keywords you want measured.  As you continue to type in the text box the site will update the stats for you so that you can see where you might need to up or lower keyword frequency.

As you strive to hit the right balance between good content and keyword rich content this free tool can definitely help you.

Should You Go With What You Know?

Getting started in internet marketing is an exciting prospect. But it can be overwhelming too. There are so many options to consider that you would be forgiven for not knowing where to turn or what to try first.

ideasThis is where a little thought can go a long way. Many people start off in internet marketing by sticking with what’s familiar to them. For example, if you have a natural interest in wine making you might set up your own website giving lots of information to novice winemakers. You could try and find some e-books on the subject which offer an affiliate scheme to make money from.

Starting with what you know certainly gives you a direction and focus to start with, and you are on familiar ground as well, which helps you to get off to a roaring start.

But should you stick with what you know in the long run? After all those subjects you are familiar with may not have a wide enough scope to make you your first million in internet marketing. That’s when you need to think about branching out and identifying other areas of internet marketing to get involved with.

Explore Other Options

You don’t need to go for areas which you have no knowledge of at all, however. There is a temptation to jump in the deep end after a while, especially if your success in internet marketing has been fuelled by a subject you know a lot about.

Try and ensure you maintain a balance between making the most of what you know, and exploring other areas which may yield even more in internet marketing profits. If you do this you will get a much better end result – and you will learn and earn far more as a result.
